Welcome to the Social Studies Department
The Social Studies Department strives to develop the decision making and citizenship skills of our students as they study the history, government and geography of the United States. Elective classes focus on exposing the students to a variety of political and social issues as well as teaching research and debate skills.
Clubs and Honor Societies:
- Students who qualify for membership may join the Social Studies Honor Society.
- Seniors enrolled in Government classes may join the Youth and Government Club.
- The Stock Market Game competition is offered through the Economics and Personal Finance Class.
- Interested students from all grade levels may join the Debate Club
Teaches: Honors US History, Sociology and Psychology, Economics and Personal Finance
Education: James Madison University with a BS degree in History and Social Science
and later received her Masters degree in Secondary Education from JMU.
Mrs. Lam is also Senior Class Sponsor at ERHS.
Teaches: World History II, World Geography, AP European History and Debate
Education: Bachelors of Arts and Sciences degree in History from West Virginia University
and received his teaching certificate along with graduate credits from Robert Morris University.
He has traveled extensively and is the sponsor of the Debate Team.
He is a member of the Virginia Geographic Alliance and Goethe Institute.

Education: James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science.
She is the sponsor of the Youth & Government Club.

Education: The University of Virginia where she majored in Politics and minored in History. She also received her Masters degree in Teaching with a specialty in Secondary Social Studies from UVA.

Education: James Madison University: He majored in History and double-minored in Secondary Education and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences.
Teaches: AP Human Geography, Honors Government, Government and AP Psychology.
Education: Eastern Mennonite University, where he majored in Social Sciences with a minor in Political Science.
Assistant coach for the scholastic bowl team.
She enjoys traveling. She is the perfect choice to teach AP Geography as she was born in Kenya and has traveled to Europe, Central and South America.
